As part of my treatment for depression got a small yacht to go for a sail when I need to get away from stressful situations

Back in May this year we got ourselves a small sailing yacht in which to go on adventures around the local creeks and backwaters and along the coast when it is possible to get away from work. 


I have now got the time and space to sort out the yacht and be able to use her for day sailing around the local area and have some peace from the rest of the world and clear my mind of the dark feelings I am having at the moment.

The good part about the old fuel filter system on Chance is that it is a non disposable system, so it just needs cleaning at regular intervals to keep it working  Although there are a number of parts to the filter system it is straightforward and easy to dismantle and rebuild when it needs cleaning to maintain the engines   Just need a couple of parts replacing as they are worn out, apart from that the system is ready to be reused again for another 70 years or more

A year on since we started our restoration on Chance and now getting ready for the next stage, her moving home to Essex

  This is Chance a year ago before I made a start on her full restoration The forecabin during the early stages of the restoration  Now with all the furniture removed and ready to get on with thew restoration of the cabin  Two early photos of the starboard hand side of the main cabin before this was all removed to get to the hull planking and the ribs so that they can be repaired. The whole of the main cabin removed and what was able to be removed in one piece is now in storage and other parts that were in not such good condition are being rebuild in the same method as when they were originally constructed in 1948 The galley area stripped down to the bare hull so that necessary repairs can be made to the bulkheads and planking and ribs before the galley is refitted back in place. Input from a fellow traditional boat builder which I have known and respected

Yesterday a fellow boat builder came to Chance to give the team a his view on the way on the replacement of the transom framework and the starboard beam shelf and how he would tackle the job. His view was much along the same lines as the team's view of the job. Like the team's view, prop up the starboard corner of the last frame just ahead of the transom. This frame is the last frame before the transom framework itself. He said that once this last frame was back in its correct position, the hull would be in the same position as the port side. As he said, the port side last frame which is still in good condition, take a pattern of this frame and make up a replacement frame for the starboard side and bring the hull up to fit this new frame buy more use of props until the hull is bad where it should be and re-fix any planks which are still there. and make any new planks which will be the correct size and shape to bring the correct shape back to this part of the hull.
