The sheer amount of varnishing we have done on the parts out of Chance and there is more to come over the coming months

 Here are just a few parts that have been varnished over the past few weeks with still a lot more to come in the coming weeks and months ahead

This first photo is of the port side galley doors which have to have a new framework making for them to sit in and the put back in place on the boat once the bulkheads are repaired and re-varnished.


The port side door for the portside lower galley unit.


The top strips for thew butterfly hatches for the rails to go in to stop people from putting their foot through the butterfly hatch glass and the top cover panels for the aft hatch and the wedges to keep the aft hatch open for ventilation. 



The upper part of the starboard galley unit which needs to be varnished and a little bit of repair work done to the ends.


The starboard main cabin wine locker door at the forward end of the starboard sideboard front which is being repaired over the next few weeks.


The port side lower galley unit front and one of the many drawers we have repaired and have varnished the front panel


The main cabin door, this will be refitted once the cockpit bulkheads are stripped and revarnished.


The starboard side galley unit front panel now varnished very likely to cover the two holes with a wooden vent cover to keep the locker airy and dry.

The upper panel for the port side galley locker which is in need of a bit of TLC and then varnishing like the rest of the interior woodwork


The starboard side main cabin doors and the starboard side galley unit doors.


The two parts of the Baby Blake toilet which we are restoring. A new Baby Blake toilet is now costing £5500.00 so we are going to restore the one we have.

The two navigation light holders have been varnished on the other side and now are ready to be painted green and red before the navigation lights are refitted on these holder and then the holders mounted on the wheelhouse roof.


The butterfly hatches now ready have the new glass fitted in and then the quadrants made up and then finish off the varnishing of them later.

Chance like a lot of James Silver / John Bain designed boats at the time Chance was build, they were twin screw single rudder designed.  The stern gear glands were of white metal and were very close fitting glands The original propellers that were fitted when Chance was originally launched in 1948 The original manufacturer of the propeller can be seen as Thornycroft   On this photo is can be seen that the diameter is 17 1/2 " x 12 1/2" These propeller shafts will have to be removed as there is work to be done on the stern tubes and the bearing changed to modern stern gear when Chance is re-engineered

A big shout out for a cover to put over Chance so we can get on with the restoration of Chance.

 At the moment we are in this position with Chance, We have a large poly sheet over Chance which keeps getting blown off as we can not fix it down very well and is a thankless task having to keep pulling over the boat until the next major gale of strong wind decides to remove the cover again.  That's the position at the moment, what we are looking for is a shed/workshop like the one over Helen Wycherley Heritage Restoration project in Whitby North Yorkshire. This type of shed/ workshop would do our restoration project a world of good and make possible for us to get on with our restoration of Chance.    So if anyone out there can put us in contact with anyone who wishes to move on their poly tunnel shed/ workshop, please get in contact with us through our social media channels. Chance Autumn update

As many of you will have seen from the lack of updates there as been little work done on Chance over the summer. This as been due a lack of time and more over a lack of funds to do major task done on Chance. especially the removal of the middle and aft section of the starboard beam shelf and reconstructing the transom and its framework which holds it in position.   However, all is not doom and gloom, has I have been able to take on an apprentice to help me during the working week on my clients boats and leave myself and wife time to get on with working on Chances repairs.  So hopefully over the coming week's we should be able to make a start on getting the beam shelf removed and replaced with a new correctly fitted beam shelf which will bring the hull back into position  along with the ribs and frames which have to be replaced at the same time to get the hull back into its correct position once more.  There is going to be a lot of shoring up of the starboard sid...
