Got transit van wheels again at last, so I can make plans to go back up to Chance again soon

 At last I have a transit van to get my work underway again on Chance and get other jobs done around my yard and in the workshop. Not having a transit van with a towbar fitted as been a great royal pain as much of my work needs a transit size van with a towbar on a must if I am to do my work. Especially when I have to move boats and trailers around the yard and up and down the country. This is true of the bits and pieces I have in storage at the yard where Chance is presently stored. The sooner I can get them down at my yard the better so I can work on them.

The next big job on Chance is going to be removing the engines and tankage out of the engine bay and getting them back down to my yard to get them sold along with the diesel cooker and any of other items which are in good condition and can be sold on to fund this project.

Once the engines and tankage is out the inspection of this area of the boat can be done to see how much work is going to be needed to sort out and take measurements for new engines to go in place of the original engines which are beyond cost effective condition to sort out.

So it is now time to make plans to go up country to Chance and get on with the jobs that need to be done before the winter takes hold.

A big shout out for a cover to put over Chance so we can get on with the restoration of Chance.

 At the moment we are in this position with Chance, We have a large poly sheet over Chance which keeps getting blown off as we can not fix it down very well and is a thankless task having to keep pulling over the boat until the next major gale of strong wind decides to remove the cover again.  That's the position at the moment, what we are looking for is a shed/workshop like the one over Helen Wycherley Heritage Restoration project in Whitby North Yorkshire. Chance Autumn update

As many of you will have seen from the lack of updates there as been little work done on Chance over the summer. This as been due a lack of time and more over a lack of funds to do major task done on Chance. especially the removal of the middle and aft section of the starboard beam shelf and reconstructing the transom and its framework which holds it in position.   However, all is not doom and gloom, has I have been able to take on an apprentice to help me during the working week on my clients boats and leave myself and wife time to get on with working on Chances repairs.  So hopefully over the coming week's we should be able to make a start on getting the beam shelf removed and replaced with a new correctly fitted beam shelf which will bring the hull back into position  along with the ribs and frames which have to be replaced at the same time to get the hull back into its correct position once more.  There is going to be a lot of shoring up of the starboard sid...

Next Job at the stern of Chance is going to be to remove the Rudder on Chance

 Now having removed a number of planks on either side of the hog as found that the inner hog is in need of replacing. This means that we will have to remove the rudder tube. This means having to remove all the frame work from the transom to expose the rudder tube. The rudder tube in this photo is sitting on two shaped wedges on top of the hog.  Also all this aft deck planking is going to have to be removed as well. no easy job as it was laid down with galvanized screws which have been in place for almost 80 years and will very likely not come out without a lot of damage to the teak decking, so it is likely we will cut off the screws between the deck and the deck beams. This is not a problem as the deck beams have to be replaced anyway because at one end they are not fixed and at sometime in the past were cut short. So now the fun will start dismantling the aft end of the boat more to get the hog repaired and the whole of this area rebuild as strong as when it was first build....
