The Chance Restoration RNLI Teddy Bear wedding of the year 2025

The Bride and Groom on their wedding day at Scarborough Lifeboat Station, They are called Long John Silver as is the first Teddy bear in the collection, his name came about from the fact he is the mascot for Chance and the fact that Chance is a James Silver and his new bride Fran and she is from Yorkshire and comes from Redcar RNLI Life boat Station.  


The bridesmaid and Best Man are from the Scarborough RNLI Life Boat and they were the next teddy bears to become part of the growing teddy bear collection for the restoration project.
 

The first photo of the newly married couple and their new friends and now they are off on their adventures and we will keep you updated on their ongoing adventures as they travel round the country growing their family and friends along the way.

The good part about the old fuel filter system on Chance is that it is a non disposable system, so it just needs cleaning at regular intervals to keep it working  Although there are a number of parts to the filter system it is straightforward and easy to dismantle and rebuild when it needs cleaning to maintain the engines   Just need a couple of parts replacing as they are worn out, apart from that the system is ready to be reused again for another 70 years or more

A year on since we started our restoration on Chance and now getting ready for the next stage, her moving home to Essex

  This is Chance a year ago before I made a start on her full restoration The forecabin during the early stages of the restoration  Now with all the furniture removed and ready to get on with thew restoration of the cabin  Two early photos of the starboard hand side of the main cabin before this was all removed to get to the hull planking and the ribs so that they can be repaired. The whole of the main cabin removed and what was able to be removed in one piece is now in storage and other parts that were in not such good condition are being rebuild in the same method as when they were originally constructed in 1948 The galley area stripped down to the bare hull so that necessary repairs can be made to the bulkheads and planking and ribs before the galley is refitted back in place. A year to remember and also forget.

 This past year as been one of many turns and changes along the way. We had plans to get the restoration of Chance underway in a major way. however this was not to be the case. As the following paragraph will show you. Having moved Chance from Woodplumpton in the previous November to Walton on the Naze in Essex, we set about making plans to start doing the restoration in the spring of this year.  However, this was derailed by the passing of my wife's mother after a long illness, this event happened and so the project was put on hold for most of the year apart from doing the odd bit here and there either on Chance or in the workshop doing small jobs while we rebuild our lives once more,  So has the months when on during 2023 without the heart to move the project along the project ground to a slow halt and in the end it stop with a cover being put over the boat and all work stopped on the boat itself.  So we both when about our daily working lives while we came to term...
